Heather grew up in the small town of Abingdon, Virginia. She was the middle child of three kids, and from an early age, she exhibited an all-in attitude and gave 100% to her activities. Heather became passionate for helping her community and advocating for others when her younger brother was diagnosed with autism at a young age. Through advocating for her family, Heather learned the importance of fighting for justice and the need for compassion in the legal field and beyond.
Heather graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, with a Bachelors in Political Science with a concentration in Pre-Law. Sensing that the legal field was one where she could make a difference, Heather attended Elon University School of Law in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina.
After graduating from law school, Heather began her legal career practicing Workers’ Compensation Defense representing Employers and Insurance Companies at top law firms across the state. Heather quickly became frustrated with the wrongful denial of claims.
One case in particular stands out for Heather. She remembers a client denying the claim of a worker who was seriously injured loading furniture into a delivery truck because there was uncertainty about whether the employee was still in the course and scope of his work when the accident occurred. Her client ended up settling with the injured employee when it was finally determined that he was doing work for his employer when the accident occurred – but this was after a considerable delay. Though she had fulfilled her obligation to her client, Heather still felt badly about the amount of time the worker and his family went without deserved and needed compensation.
Now with the Law Office of Lyndon R. Helton, Heather represents injured workers in Workers’ Compensation Claims, serious bodily injury cases, and social security disability cases. Heather uses the experience and skills from her previous work as a defense attorney to fight for injured workers.
In her free time, Heather enjoys reading, spending time with nature, and engaging with her community. She lives in Granite Falls with her husband and her five rescue cats.
