Motorcycle accidents: Biker dies, crash still under investigation

Apr 20, 2020 | Personal Injury

As the temperatures continue to warm, more and more people will take to the open roads on their motorcycles. Though this mode of transportation can be a great source of fun, it is not without significant danger. Motorcycle accidents are much more likely to cause serious injuries or even death to riders than those in passenger vehicles. One recent crash here in North Carolina resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and police still have questions about exactly what happened to cause this tragedy.

Officials say that the accident happened on a recent evening on a local highway. A man driving his motorcycle north was allegedly struck by a passenger vehicle making a left turn onto the highway. The motorcyclist did not survive, dying on the scene before he could be taken for treatment. Officers had to close part of the highway in order to conduct their investigation.

Police say that they believe speed was a factor in this crash, though they report that they haven’t concluded their investigation. They have not filed any charges, but also haven’t ruled out the possibility. There is no word on whether they suspect any further contributing factors, such as intoxicated driving.

Even if no criminal charges are filed, if the driver of the passenger vehicle is found to be at fault, there may be other ways to hold her responsible. The victim’s family could decide to file a wrongful death claim against her or anyone else deemed responsible for the crash. A North Carolina attorney with experience handling cases relating to motorcycle accidents may be the best person to consult for the next possible steps.
