Morganton Suspended Driver's License Attorney
If you have been arrested and charged with DWI in North Carolina or have lost your driving privileges for any other reason, you can take steps to retain or reinstate your license. You want an experienced lawyer to handle the process for you, someone who understands the law and process and has successfully protected the rights of others in similar situations.
I am traffic defense attorney Chris Cordes, at the Law Offices of Lyndon R. Helton, PLLC. I bring a wealth of criminal and traffic law experience to people throughout western North Carolina. Before joining Lyndon Helton's firm, I spent more than 14 years as a public defender, including time in the federal criminal courts. I have also been a prosecutor (for more than three years), so I understand how the government prepares and presents cases.
My Driver's License Defense Practice
Under North Carolina law, when you drive on a public road, you must submit to a blood alcohol test if you are pulled over on suspicion of DWI (driving while intoxicated). If you refuse to take the test, your driving privileges will be immediately suspended for at least 30 days and potentially for up to a year. You have a right to request a hearing on your refusal before the start of a one-year suspension, giving you the opportunity to challenge the refusal and potentially reinstate your license.
I will aggressively protect your rights at your Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) hearing, taking the time to fully investigate the details of your traffic stop. When appropriate, I will challenge the determination of probable cause to pull you over. I will also verify if you were properly advised of your rights, including the consequences if you refused to submit to a blood alcohol test.
I also represent people whose driving privileges have been taken away for other reasons, including the accumulation of points for multiple traffic violations.
