Learn How Your North Carolina Doctor Can Help You
Recovering from a Personal Injury
If you have been injured, visiting a doctor will allow you to obtain the medical attention you need. Many injuries can take days, weeks or even months to heal, and symptoms that may seem minor can be become more severe. At the Law Offices of Lyndon R. Helton, PLLC, we help clients get the most out of their doctors' visits. Learn how to protect your rights when you visit the doctor by contacting our firm online or calling 828-328-9966.
Dealing With Your Doctor
It is most important that you rely upon your doctor, and that you follow his or her directions and keep every appointment if possible. Your doctor can be your best friend or your worst enemy, in your workers' compensation claim. The Industrial Commission will give a great deal of weight to what your doctor says about your condition. Make a strong effort to maintain a good working relationship with him or her. You can always catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
Return to each of your doctors as often as necessary and always tell them about all your complaints. While doctors often react negatively to patients they believe to be exaggerating and although you should not exaggerate your complaints, you should not make them seem unimportant either. Try to be as thorough and accurate as you can in telling the doctor about your medical problems. A doctor must know these things in order to properly treat you. If you plan to see any additional doctors, please advise us before you see them and tell us their names and addresses.
Fill all prescriptions and keep all doctor appointments. If you miss you appointments the insurance company will argue that you must not have been hurt because you did not go to the doctor. Your doctor is one of the most important parts of your case. If you must miss a doctor's appointment or physical therapist's appointment, call and reschedule. It looks bad to see "DNKA" in your medical records. ("DNKA" = did not keep appointment.) To call and reschedule not only looks better, but is courteous.
Contact an Attorney
Health insurance provides clients a good way to have their bills paid. Ultimately, you are the one that owes the medical provider money. If the bills are not submitted to health insurance in a timely manner, you may be held liable.
