Working With the Insurance Adjuster
An important step in the insurance claim process is speaking with the insurance adjuster. This interview can determine whether or not you receive compensation for your loss. Unfortunately, most people are unaware that this is such a critical interview and they often are lead into making statements that the insurance company uses against them.
If you need to speak with an insurance adjuster after an accident or injury, contact a lawyer first. The Law Offices of Lyndon R. Helton, PLLC, has years of experience dealing with insurance companies. Lyndon Helton used to work as an insurance defense attorney, so he knows how to handle interviews and statements. Insurance Adjuster Information
Insurance adjusters are professionals who are trained in insurance law and their relevant case law. Once they learn of your injury they will open a "Claim File." This file is audited by the adjusters' supervisors to see if they are paying out too much on claims.
During the interview when they call you, the adjuster may seem very nice, but don't let that fool you. An adjuster's job is to protect the insurance company from expense. He or she will try to get you to say things that seem harmless, but may be used against you to deny what you are lawfully owed
The adjuster will ask you to give a statement and may ask you to sign a medical release. If you were in a car accident, you do not have to give a statement or sign the release. If you have a workers' compensation claim, you may have to give a statement and sign a medical release. Call an attorney before you do anything. The insurance company can use the release to go through all of your medical records and claim your injury was not the result of an accident.
