North Carolina Criminal Record Attorney
If you have been charged with or convicted of a crime, maybe something you did when you were young and immature, and your criminal record has made it difficult to get the kind of work you want or to live where you choose, you should talk with an experienced criminal defense lawyer to learn whether you qualify to have your record expunged. An expungement will permanently erase any record of your offense or arrest. Your youthful mistake will no longer appear every time a prospective employer does a background check.
I am criminal defense attorney Chris Cordes at the Law Offices of Lyndon R. Helton, PLLC. I bring almost 20 years of experience in the criminal justice system to people throughout western North Carolina. Before joining the firm, I spent almost 14 years as a public defender and nearly four years as a prosecutor.
Helping You Expunge a Criminal Record
In North Carolina, the situations in which a criminal record may be expunged are extremely limited. Assuming you were convicted of a crime, you can only get your record expunged if the offense was one of certain relatively minor misdemeanors and was committed before you turned 21. You cannot have any prior expungements, and you must show that you have a record of good behavior for at least two years. It may also be possible to clear your record if you were charged, but your charges were dismissed or you were found not guilty.
If you qualify for expungement of a criminal record, I will prepare and file all documents necessary to complete the process. I will also be your advocate in all hearings or proceedings necessary to finalize the expungement.
