North Carolina Criminal Law Attorney
When you face criminal charges, you want an experienced lawyer to protect your constitutional rights. The criminal justice system can be confusing and intimidating, with a unique set of rules and language of its own. Without proper counsel, you can quickly find yourself getting in deeper and deeper. You want an attorney who knows the law and the system, who has protected the rights of others in situations like yours.
I am Chris Cordes, a criminal defense lawyer at the Law Offices of Lyndon R. Helton, PLLC. I have dedicated my entire career, nearly 20 years, to criminal law. Before joining the firm, I served as a public defender for nearly 14 years and as a prosecutor for almost four years. I have considerable experience on both sides of criminal prosecution and know the strategies and tactics the state's attorneys will use to try to get a conviction.
An Overview of My Criminal Defense Practice
I focus my practice on misdemeanor offenses but I have the experience to handle serious felony charges as well. My practice includes representation in matters involving:
- Drug crimes — I handle all types of drug cases, from possession to sale to trafficking to manufacturing to cultivation. I defend people facing charges involving all types of controlled substances, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin, meth and even prescription drugs.
- DWI — I frequently represent both local residents and out-of-state drivers who have been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) in North Carolina.
- Property crimes — I defend people charged with a range of crimes related to property, including theft, damage or injury to, and larceny of property, as well as possession and receiving of stolen property.
- Assaults — From assault and battery and simple affray to the most serious felony assaults, my nearly 18 years in the criminal courts of North Carolina have given me the knowledge and skill to vigorously defend anyone charged with an assault crime.
I will also help you determine whether you qualify to expunge your criminal record. If so, I will complete all the steps necessary to remove a charge or conviction from your criminal record.
